Google Sites provides several page layout schemes.
Access them using the Edit -> Layout menu
Multi-column layouts can be helpful when presenting a calendar along side a listing of new announcements, etc.
Notes: - By default pages are simple one column.
- Layouts can't be customized:
- in multi-column layouts, all columns are the same width.
- in sidebar layouts, the page sidebar is set to the same width as the webpage sidebar.
- When editing a page, each region of the page is its own editable area, and has a separate HTML editor.
