Table of Contents

A Table of Contents (TOC) can be very helpful for navigating a webpage, especially lengthly ones.
There are two predominant styles for preparing a Table of Contents:
  • Quick Access TOC on a page - In this predominant use case, the TOC is relatively narrow, set for text to wrap and usually right justified (away from the menu sidebar).  See Right
  • FAQ format / Introduction - to introduce the content on a page.  Here the TOC appears 'In Line' with text and full width (but sometimes it may be narrower and centered).  See Below

Webmaster Tip:
  • TOC verifies page structure - For longer pages, including a TOC will help you to keep the structure of your page accurate.  In cases where you made editing errors regarding heading levels, reviewing the TOC can help you identify the errors.
Setup a Table of Contents in 3 steps:
  1. Create the TOC object - starting with the cursor in the desired location, use command:  Insert -> Table of Contents
  2. Configure the TOC - select the number of levels include and the width (blank for full page width)
  3. Position the object (justification & wrapping) - refer to next page.
